IN Uneven Steps, Lanre Idowu brings the skills of a historian and a raconteur to offer two books in one. While the overt purpose is to recount the journey of the Nigerian Guild of Editors from inception to date, the author includes a significant aside on Nigerian Media Law being the media’s fight against the suffocating chains of repression and censorship. The double offer makes this book a significant and irresistible contribution to Nigerian media literature. Uneven Steps adds to the growing literature in two areas: Nigerian media history generally and…

Nigeria @ 61 No Be Moi-moi’ By Olusegun Adeniyi

‘Tomorrow marks Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary. While we lament about what might have been and politicians play their usual games that contribute nothing to the welfare of people, let me confess straightaway that the copyright for the title of this piece is not mine. But there is an interesting backstory to it. Late in July this year, I received a call from the Director, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Department of Outdoor Advertisement and Signage, Dr. Baba Gana Adam. He informed me that I had been nominated to chair a panel…

Power Rotation: Who The Cap Fits Between The North And The South? By Dr Uche Diala

Following the Press Release by the Northern Governors Forum after its recent meeting, I have read some opinion of some Southerners and Politicians. I dare say that some of the bickerings are borne out of a victim mentality but the South is surely not a victim in this particular instance and cannot claim to be. If truth be told and if recent history is anything to go by. Let me remind us that the same North ‘conceded’ the Presidency to the South in 1999 after the return to civilian rule…
