2027 Elections: INEC Opens Portal to Recruit 1.4m Ad Hoc Staff

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its online recruitment portal for the engagement of about 1.4 million ad hoc personnel ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The commission said the personnel would be deployed across more than 176,000 polling units nationwide to support the conduct of the elections.

The recruitment portal, known as INECPRES, opened at 8am on Friday, September 18, 2026, and will close at midnight on Wednesday, November 18, 2026.

The ad hoc personnel will be recruited for various positions, including Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs), Presiding Officers (POs), Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs), Registration Area Centre (RAC) Managers and Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH) personnel.

According to INEC, eligible applicants include serving NYSC members, qualified former corps members, students of federal and state tertiary institutions, eligible federal and state government employees, permanent staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, qualified INEC personnel and eligible ICT professionals.

For the SPO category, INEC said eligible public-sector employees within Grade Level 10 to 14 may apply, subject to the stipulated conditions. Serving NYSC members and certain former corps members whose service falls within the specified three-year period may also qualify.

Students of federal and state tertiary institutions are among those eligible for PO and APO positions, alongside certain government employees meeting the required educational and salary-grade conditions.

INEC also stated that RAC Manager positions are primarily linked to schools and other institutions designated to host Registration Area Centres, while RATECH positions are targeted at qualified ICT personnel and IT students with the required technical background.

The commission urged prospective applicants to carefully study the eligibility requirements for their preferred positions before submitting their applications.

Applicants are required to access the INECPRES portal through the official INEC website, select an eligible position, provide accurate personal, educational and employment details, review their information and submit their applications.

The 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.

INEC advised interested Nigerians not to wait until the deadline before completing their registration.

The commission said its IT Service Management operates a 24-hour helpdesk to attend to enquiries relating to the recruitment platform, with applicants able to reach it through the 0700-CALL-INEC vanity number or [email protected].
