2027 Polls: APC Has Enough Achievements to Tell Nigerians, Says Akpabio

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded sufficient achievements under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek the support of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio stated this on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, when he received members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, led by its Chairman, Senator Dandutse Mohammed, at his residence.

According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio said the Tinubu administration inherited a troubled economy but had introduced measures that had significantly changed the situation.

“The current President has done a lot for Nigerians. He met an economy in shambles. When he came in, 27 states could not pay salaries and pensions, but today, the story has changed because of his reengineering and thinking outside the box,” he said.

The Senate President expressed confidence that Nigerians would return President Tinubu for a second term in 2027, saying the APC would have substantial achievements to present to voters during the election campaign.

“We will have something to tell Nigerians about the unprecedented achievements of Mr President at the campaign grounds,” Akpabio said.

He listed the administration’s interventions in the economy, agriculture, security, education and fiscal policy as areas where the government had recorded progress, alleging that opposition politicians were unwilling to acknowledge the achievements because of their political positions.

Akpabio also highlighted the performance of the 10th Senate, saying the legislature had made “giant strides” under his leadership and would continue to collaborate with the executive arm to deliver more benefits to Nigerians.

He commended the committee members for continuing their legislative and oversight duties during the Senate’s annual recess, urging them not to be distracted by social media.

“We don’t need to listen to social media because it is garbage in, garbage out,” he said.

The Senate President also assured senators who would not return to the 11th Senate that their loyalty to the APC and President Tinubu would not go unrecognised, urging them to continue working for the progress of the party and the success of the administration.

Earlier, Senator Mohammed said the committee was in Akwa Ibom to undertake its constitutional responsibilities and pay homage to the Senate President.

He commended the 10th Senate for enacting laws that, according to him, were already benefiting Nigerians, particularly through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

Mohammed said the committee was in the state for sensitisation and oversight activities on infrastructure projects executed by TETFund.

He described education as fundamental to national development, stressing that effective investment in the sector remained critical to Nigeria’s future.
