AFIT, U.S. Embassy Forge Partnership for Global Education, Research

The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, has strengthened efforts to expand international educational and professional opportunities for its students and staff following an engagement with the Public Diplomacy Section of the United States Embassy.

The engagement focused on exploring avenues for academic collaboration, research, professional development and knowledge exchange, while deepening institutional ties between AFIT and the U.S. Embassy.

During an interactive session, the U.S. Embassy delegation introduced participants to opportunities provided through American Spaces, EducationUSA and the Fulbright scholarship programme. The platforms offer educational resources, reliable information and guidance for students and professionals seeking postgraduate studies and research opportunities in the United States.

The session also provided AFIT students and staff with practical information on scholarship opportunities, application procedures and research exchange programmes. Participants were further exposed to pathways for pursuing higher degrees, building professional networks and accessing global knowledge that could contribute to Nigeria’s technological and aerospace development.

Speaking on the initiative, the AFIT Commandant, Air Vice Marshal Adeniran Kolade Ademuwagun, expressed appreciation to the U.S. Embassy for selecting the Institute for the engagement.

Ademuwagun noted that the initiative aligned with AFIT’s mandate of producing highly skilled manpower in science, engineering, technology and innovation, particularly in areas critical to Nigeria’s defence and aerospace capabilities.

The AFIT Provost, Professor Auwal Kasim, also emphasised the importance of the engagement to academic advancement, research and capacity development.

He reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to strengthening global partnerships and leveraging international expertise and resources to advance Nigeria’s defence, technological and aerospace capabilities.

The engagement underscored AFIT’s growing focus on international collaboration as a means of exposing its students and staff to global best practices, cutting-edge research opportunities and professional development pathways.

It is also expected to contribute to the Institute’s broader objective of building a highly skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and technological self-reliance in Nigeria’s defence and aerospace sectors.
