The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Victor Olaiya, has charged officers and men of the command to uphold discipline, professionalism, integrity and respect for human rights, stressed that effective policing can only thrive where discipline is firmly entrenched.
Speaking during the Zone 7 General Lecture Parade held at the headquarters in Abuja on Monday, AIG Olaiya delivered a lecture titled “Effective Policing Thrives Where Discipline is Upheld,” where he described discipline as the foundation of professionalism, accountability and efficient service delivery in the Nigeria Police Force.
He urged all personnel to remain steadfast in the discharge of their duties, uphold the core values of the Force and consistently demonstrate exemplary conduct in both their official responsibilities and personal lives.
According to the AIG, every police officer serves as a public relations ambassador of the Nigeria Police Force, noting that officers’ behaviour, appearance, communication skills and professionalism significantly influence public perception and confidence in policing.
He therefore called on officers to maintain the highest standards of integrity, courtesy, discipline and ethical conduct at all times.
AIG Olaiya also emphasised the importance of protecting human rights and delivering quality public service, reiterating the policing philosophy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, that “Citizens are the Boss.”
He reminded personnel that policing is fundamentally a service-oriented profession and urged them to ensure that every interaction with members of the public is guided by professionalism, empathy, fairness, accountability and strict adherence to the rule of law.
The Zone 7 Police boss further briefed officers on key resolutions from the recently concluded Strategic Management Meeting convened by the Inspector-General of Police, which brought together Commissioners of Police and other senior officers across the country.
He encouraged personnel to internalise the resolutions of the meeting and align their conduct, leadership and operational responsibilities with the strategic vision and policing priorities of the Inspector-General.
The General Lecture Parade, according to the Zone 7 Headquarters, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism, reinforce discipline and promote a people-centred policing culture aimed at enhancing public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
The event was attended by officers, men and women of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja.
