Akwa Ibom @ 39: Akpabio Rallies Support for Tinubu, Eno Ahead of 2027

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has called on the people of Akwa Ibom State to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio made the call in Uyo during activities marking the 39th anniversary of the creation of Akwa Ibom State, while commending Eno for his commitment to development, peace and economic advancement.

The Senate President, who is a former governor of Akwa Ibom, said the progress of the state should transcend partisan considerations, stressing that successive generations of leaders have a responsibility to build on the foundations laid by their predecessors.

He specifically called for the re-election of President Tinubu and Governor Eno in 2027, expressing confidence that Tinubu would receive strong support from the South-South region.

Akpabio said President Tinubu had demonstrated commitment to the development of the region, adding that the South-South would reciprocate through its support for his administration.

He also praised Governor Eno for sustaining the development trajectory of Akwa Ibom through the ARISE Agenda, noting that the governor’s emphasis on peace and economic advancement was contributing to the state’s progress.

Akpabio said the state’s development journey demonstrated what could be achieved when vision, public investment and effective leadership were combined, while recalling the infrastructure and human-capital investments made by successive administrations.

He urged the people of Akwa Ibom to look beyond the anniversary celebrations and focus on creating greater opportunities for young people, enterprise and innovation.

The Senate President also paid tribute to the founding fathers of Akwa Ibom, describing the people of the state as its greatest resource and acknowledging their contributions to public service, business, academia, sports and other sectors.

He further called for stronger cooperation between Akwa Ibom and neighbouring Cross River State, stressing that the historical and cultural ties between the two states could provide a foundation for deeper regional economic integration.

Akwa Ibom was created on September 23, 1987, by the military administration of former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida.

As the state marked its 39th anniversary, Akpabio said the occasion offered an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the past while strengthening the collective commitment to the state’s continued development.
