Apapa Customs Breaks Revenue Records, Hits N323bn Monthly, N28.1bn Daily

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated N1.38 trillion in revenue between July and August 2026, with the Apapa Area Command recording unprecedented collections of N323 billion in a single month and N28.1 billion in a single day.

The National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed this on Tuesday at the joint security agencies’ spokespersons’ press briefing held at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre in Abuja.

Maiwada said the Service generated N784,656,042,005.97 in July and N595,581,420,186.23 in August, bringing its combined revenue for the two months to about N1.38 trillion.

He attributed the performance to technology-driven operations, improved trade facilitation, enhanced compliance and stronger enforcement measures aimed at reducing revenue leakages and strengthening border control.

According to him, the Apapa Area Command recorded its highest-ever monthly revenue collection of N323 billion in July.

The command subsequently set a new single-day revenue collection record on August 18, when it generated N28.1 billion. The figure surpassed the previous benchmark of N20.1 billion recorded in September 2025.

On trade facilitation, Maiwada said the Service processed 90,985 Single Goods Declarations during the two-month period, comprising 55,731 in July and 35,254 in August.

He added that 8,873 Pre-Arrival Assessment Reports were also processed within the period.

The Customs spokesperson further disclosed significant growth in export activities, particularly at the Lilypond Export Command, which recorded an export value of $792.57 million in the second quarter of 2026.

The figure represents a 24.35 per cent increase over the $599.60 million recorded during the corresponding period of 2025.

Export container throughput also increased by 32.27 per cent to 5,510 containers.

Maiwada said agricultural exports rose to $422.09 million, while manufactured goods nearly tripled to $350.67 million. Collections under the Nigeria Export Supervision Scheme also increased by 9.52 per cent to N5.38 billion.

Between July and August, the Service processed 9,322 export containers carrying agricultural produce, manufactured goods, solid minerals and other commodities.

On anti-smuggling operations, the National Public Relations Officer said Area Commands and Federal Operations Units intercepted contraband with a combined Duty Paid Value of more than N61.3 billion.

He said the seizures were part of sustained efforts to combat smuggling, narcotics trafficking and other forms of economic sabotage.

Among the notable operations, Maiwada said the Adamawa/Taraba Command intercepted goods worth N362.2 million, including 25,295 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, cannabis and heavy machinery allegedly destined for illegal export to Chad.

He added that the Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’, disrupted a smuggling operation involving goods worth N3.24 billion and recovered N728.98 million in lost revenue.

The operation also resulted in the seizure of 1,439.99kg of synthetic cannabis, controlled tablets and 22 elephant tusks.

The Ogun I Command, according to Maiwada, seized goods valued at N3.57 billion, comprising mainly rice, sugar and cannabis, while the Seme Command intercepted expired noodles, rice, cannabis and 310,000 sticks of cigarettes valued at N365.2 million.

Maiwada said the sustained revenue growth and enforcement successes underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration and the deployment of technology in Customs operations.

He maintained that the Service would continue to strengthen legitimate trade, improve revenue collection and intensify enforcement against activities capable of undermining Nigeria’s economic security.
