The Nigerian Army has strongly refuted a publication by Sahara Reporters alleging that one Haruna Garba Gololo, also known as Garus Gololo, is a retired Nigerian Army General who was arrested in Abuja following comments reportedly critical of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In a disclaimer issued on the matter, the Army described the report as false, misleading, and capable of creating wrong impressions about the military and its personnel structure. It categorically stated that the individual in question is neither a serving nor retired officer of the Nigerian Army and has never served in the institution in any capacity whatsoever.
According to the statement, the portrayal of Haruna Garba Gololo as a retired General is inaccurate and amounts to a misrepresentation of facts. The Army expressed concern over what it described as lapses in verification by the media outlet, noting that such reports could undermine public trust in national institutions.
The Nigerian Army stressed that media organisations must adhere to the principles of accuracy, fairness, and responsible journalism, especially when reporting issues concerning the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
It further urged relevant media platforms to correct the misleading publication and prevent the spread of misinformation. The Army reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and its constitutional mandate of defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
