Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the African Union (AU) Executive Council Meeting taking place from July 27 to 28, 2026.
The meeting brings together Foreign Ministers from African Union Member States to deliberate on key issues affecting the continent, including regional integration, peace and security, institutional reforms within the AU, sustainable development, economic cooperation, and the implementation of decisions adopted by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the minister will actively participate in discussions aimed at strengthening continental cooperation and advancing Africa’s collective response to emerging political, economic, humanitarian, and security challenges.
The statement added that Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu is also expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with her counterparts and senior officials of the African Union Commission to promote Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives and deepen strategic partnerships across the continent.
The ministry noted that Nigeria’s participation at the Executive Council Meeting reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to the ideals of Pan-Africanism, regional peace and stability, democratic governance, economic integration, and the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 development blueprint.
It further reaffirmed Nigeria’s resolve to continue providing constructive leadership within the African Union while working closely with other member states to advance a peaceful, prosperous, resilient, and integrated Africa.
