The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has been honoured with the Distinguished Personality Award by the National Defence College (NDC) in recognition of his leadership and contributions to defence research, innovation and professional military education.
Aneke received the honour at the NDC Course 34 Graduation Dinner and Awards Night held on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, in Abuja.
The award recognises the CAS’s commitment to strengthening the Nigerian Air Force’s operational capabilities through research, innovation and the application of professional military knowledge to contemporary security challenges.
The recognition also underscores the growing importance of linking operational experience with defence research and innovation to develop enhanced military capabilities and improve responses to Nigeria’s evolving security environment.
The honour further highlights the enduring collaboration between the Nigerian Armed Forces and defence research and professional military education institutions in promoting a more professional, adaptive and capability-driven military.
Aneke’s recognition comes as the Nigerian Air Force continues to pursue intelligence-driven operations, capability development and institutional reforms aimed at enhancing its contribution to national security.
The Distinguished Personality Award therefore represents both an acknowledgement of his leadership and a reaffirmation of the strategic value of research, innovation and professional education in strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture.
