The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has pledged to deepen defence cooperation between Nigeria and Bangladesh, with emphasis on training, capacity development and professional exchanges.

Oluyede made the commitment on Thursday when the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, Miah Md. Mainul Kabir, paid a courtesy visit to the CDS at Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
The CDS said Nigeria remained committed to sustaining and expanding existing areas of defence cooperation between the two countries.
He particularly stressed the importance of enhanced training programmes and professional exchanges to improve the capacity, competence and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Earlier, Kabir reaffirmed Bangladesh’s readiness to strengthen bilateral relations with Nigeria, identifying agriculture, defence and security as key areas for closer collaboration.
The envoy said stronger institutional and professional ties between the armed forces of both countries would contribute to tackling emerging security challenges while advancing their mutual interests.
Oluyede commended the government and people of Bangladesh for their continued goodwill towards Nigeria and expressed confidence that the engagement would produce concrete outcomes.
He said the renewed collaboration would further consolidate the longstanding bilateral relationship and defence partnership between Nigeria and Bangladesh.
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both countries to explore new areas of military cooperation, particularly in training and professional capacity development.
