Civil Society Vigilance Strengthened Osun Election, Says Imole Campaign Council

The Imole Campaign Council has commended civil society organisations and election observers for what it described as their vigilance, courage and objectivity during the Osun State Governorship Election.

The council, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq., said civil society groups played an important role in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process before, during and after the election.

According to the council, the groups closely monitored developments across the state from the pre-election period through voting, collation and declaration of results, raising concerns whenever actions or circumstances appeared capable of undermining the credibility of the process.

The council said such interventions kept key stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and political actors, under scrutiny and reinforced their responsibility to operate within the law and uphold democratic standards.

It particularly praised the civil society community for maintaining objectivity and speaking out when necessary, regardless of the political interests or individuals involved.

“Such independence is essential to the credibility and growth of our democracy,” the council said.

The Imole Campaign Council stressed that democracy could only thrive when independent institutions and citizens remained vigilant and insisted on equal application of electoral rules.

It thanked civil society organisations and election observers for standing for democratic accountability and contributing to the protection of the electoral will of the people of Osun State.
