Comprehensive High School Ilutitun Marks 50 Years, Unveils Golden Jubilee Programme

Comprehensive High School, Ilutitun, is set to mark its 50th anniversary with a week-long Golden Jubilee celebration highlighting five decades of academic excellence, character formation, leadership and service to humanity.

The anniversary, organised by the Comprehensive High School, Ilutitun Old Students’ Association (CHSIOSA), is scheduled to hold from September 28 to October 4, 2026, bringing together old students, current students, staff, parents, community leaders and other stakeholders to celebrate the institution’s five-decade journey.

Established 50 years ago, the school has produced graduates who have distinguished themselves across various professions and contributed to the development of their communities and the nation.

The anniversary programme features a range of activities, including an environmental sanitation exercise tagged “Operation Let the Forest Fall”, a football match, tree and flower planting, a health talk, the CHS @ 50 Lecture, and artificial intelligence and digital training for teachers.

Other activities lined up are an inter-school Quiz and Debate Competition, the “Let’s See Ilutitun Again” Rally and the CHS Novelty Match, tagged “The Old versus The New”.

The celebration will also feature the Golden Jubilee Anniversary ceremony, dedication of the newly built and fully furnished Legacy School Gate, dedication of the CHSIOSA Corpers’ Lodge, awards, fundraising and luncheon, as well as a Golden Jubilee Dinner and Networking event.

The week-long celebration will climax with a Thanksgiving Service on October 4 at the Cathedral of Ebenezer, Diocese on the Coast, Ilutitun-Osooro.

Speaking on the significance of the anniversary, Chairman of the Golden Jubilee Publicity Committee, Comrade Akinsuyi, said the celebration was an opportunity to reflect on the school’s heritage, achievements and contributions while renewing commitment to its future.

Akinsuyi, corroborating the position of the alumni president, High Chief Olusegun Netufo, described the 50th anniversary as a celebration of the collective contributions of generations of teachers, students, parents, old students and other stakeholders to the growth of the institution.

She said the milestone represented more than five decades of formal education, stressing that it also reflected the enduring value of education and the impact of those who had contributed to the school’s development.

Meanwhile, Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Anniversary Fundraising and Planning Committee, Rev. Dr. Sunday Akingbelure and Dr. Olorunyomi Akinboyo, respectively, called on members of CHSIOSA and members of the public to support the school with substantial contributions.

They urged stakeholders to give back to the institution that provided them with educational foundations and contributed to their development.

Akinsuyi also called on old students, students, staff, parents, traditional institutions, government representatives, community leaders, friends of the school and residents of Ilutitun to identify with the Golden Jubilee celebration.

She said the anniversary provided another opportunity for stakeholders to reconnect with their roots and contribute to building a stronger future for the institution.

The organisers urged all stakeholders to join the celebration as Comprehensive High School, Ilutitun commemorates 50 years of learning, leadership, service and lasting memories under the theme: “Celebrating the Past, Inspiring the Future.”
