The Congress of African Journalists (CAJ) and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have jointly celebrated Engr. Mathew Tonlagha, a distinguished businessman and philanthropist, on the occasion of his birthday.
In a statement issued on Monday, the President of the Congress of African Journalists, Dr. Christopher Isiguzo, MFR, and the National President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, described Engr. Tonlagha as a selfless entrepreneur whose generosity has significantly impacted the journalism profession and society at large.
The NUJ President, Comrade Alhassan, commended Tonlagha’s unwavering support for journalists, emphasized that his contributions have played a vital role in promoting press freedom and professional excellence.
“Your friendship with the media is not just symbolic; it is real, tangible, and transformative. You have stood by journalists in their times of need, offering both moral and material support when it mattered most,” the statement read.
Similarly, Dr. Isiguzo praised Tonlagha’s dedication to philanthropy and his commitment to empowering media professionals. He described him as “a visionary businessman and a true friend of the media, whose support has strengthened the profession and elevated the voices of journalists championing truth, integrity, and justice.”
The two leaders prayed for continued success, good health, and greater achievements for Engr. Tonlagha, acknowledging his lasting impact on the journalism industry and the broader society.
