The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has taken decisive steps to reinforce discipline and professionalism within its ranks, as the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, convened an emergency meeting with senior officers across the command.
The meeting, held on Thursday, brought together Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units to address growing concerns around conduct and operational standards. During the session, the police chief issued a stern warned against any form of misconduct capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force, stressing the need for strict compliance with established human rights laws.
CP Sanusi directed all senior officers to immediately return to their respective jurisdictions and brief their subordinates on the new directives. He further mandated the submission of detailed compliance reports to the Command Headquarters, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police. He made it clear that any superior officer would be held accountable for the actions of personnel under their command.
In a significant move aimed at improving officer welfare and operational effectiveness, the Commissioner also ordered a comprehensive psychological and mental health assessment for all personnel. The exercise, to be coordinated by the Command’s Medical Director, ACP (Dr.) Ifayase Olabanji Akinola, alongside the Police Counseling Unit, is scheduled to commence on Monday, May 4, 2026, starting with junior officers.
According to the Command, the initiative is designed to enhance emotional stability, promote sound decision-making, and boost overall performance among officers both in the line of duty and in their personal lives.
The FCT Police Command also called on residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, urged them to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via its emergency contact lines.
The development underscored renewed efforts by the police leadership to instill accountability, improve public trust, and ensure effective policing within the nation’s capital.
