Customs Begins Final Phase of 2025 Recruitment Screening, Tasks Candidates on Discipline

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced the final phase of its 2025 recruitment exercise, with shortlisted candidates undergoing documentation, physical fitness assessments and medical screening at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The two-week exercise, which began on Monday, September 7, 2026, is scheduled to run until September 19 and covered candidates shortlisted for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASCII), Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.

To ensure an orderly process and prevent congestion, the candidates are being screened in batches, with the arrangement based alphabetically on their states of origin.

Addressing the candidates, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Frank Onyeka, said the Service was assessing not only the physical fitness of applicants but also their character, discipline and professional conduct.

“On behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, I congratulate you on reaching this stage,” Onyeka said, urging the candidates to remain orderly and comply strictly with the screening guidelines.

He stressed that attitude and conduct would remain critical considerations in determining those who would eventually join the Nigeria Customs Service.

Onyeka added that the NCS was collaborating with the Customs Police and other relevant units to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the recruitment process.

Also speaking on the exercise, the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Dow Gaura, said administrative innovations and inter-agency collaboration had helped to streamline the screening process.

According to him, the exercise reflected the policy direction of the Comptroller-General of Customs, particularly in the areas of continuous operational improvement, collaboration and innovation.

Gaura described the screening as seamless and hitch-free, adding that there had been no casualties recorded at the centre.

The screening of candidates for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs cadre is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, September 10, while the assessment of candidates for the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will continue until September 19, 2026.
