Customs Introduces Floral Beautification to Boost Officers’ Wellbeing, Productivity

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a floral beautification initiative at its headquarters in Abuja, aimed at promoting officers’ wellbeing and fostering a more welcoming, relaxed and productive work environment.

The initiative, led by the Comptroller of Administration, Human Resources Department, Ditan Tiyatiye, commenced on Monday, August 31, 2026, with the presentation of carefully curated floral arrangements to the office of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and other strategic locations within the headquarters complex.

Tiyatiye said the initiative was driven by the recognition that the physical work environment can significantly influence the mood, wellbeing and productivity of personnel.

“A beautiful environment contributes to the way people feel and work,” she said, stressing that incorporating elements of nature into workspaces could promote happiness, relaxation and greater efficiency among officers and other personnel.

She explained that the initiative began on the sixth floor of her former department before being extended to other areas of the headquarters, including the Information and Communication Technology Unit, offices of senior officers, the visitors’ lounge and the main auditorium.

According to her, the floral arrangements were carefully sourced and personally designed to complement the various spaces, particularly areas frequently used by officers, visitors and members of senior management.

Tiyatiye noted that the initiative goes beyond beautification, describing it as part of broader efforts to support officer wellness and create an atmosphere capable of motivating personnel to perform their duties effectively.

She urged officers across the Service to embrace similar initiatives in their respective workspaces, noting that collective attention to the workplace environment could help foster a more positive, healthy and productive organisational culture.

The initiative underscored the NCS management’s growing emphasis on personnel welfare as a key component of organisational effectiveness and improved service delivery.
