DCG Tijanni Abe Takes a Bow After 35 Years of Meritorious Service

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has honoured the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Human Resource and Development, DCG Tijanni Abe, as he retired after 35 years of meritorious service to the nation.

Abe was celebrated by members of the NCS Management Team at the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in recognition of his decades of dedicated service and contributions to the development of the organisation.

Leading the tributes, Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, described the retiring officer as a man whose career was defined by faith, calmness and unwavering integrity.

Adeniyi particularly highlighted Abe’s habit of expressing gratitude, noting that the quality reflected the depth of his character and the values he brought to his responsibilities throughout his career.

“You are a man of integrity and integrity pays. May God increase you in wisdom and happiness, and may your years ahead be even more pleasurable. We are all very proud of you, and we wish you well,” the CGC said.

He added that the relationships and bonds built during Abe’s years in the Service would endure beyond his retirement.

Other senior officers who paid tribute described Abe as a leader who earned respect not merely because of his rank, but through his warmth, humility and commitment to those around him.

Courage, sacrifice, kindness and humility featured prominently in the tributes, with several colleagues recalling the retiring DCG as a mentor whose quiet leadership and personal example positively influenced officers who served alongside him.

For many of his colleagues, Abe’s retirement therefore marked not only the end of a distinguished career but also the departure of a respected mentor and dependable member of the Customs Management Team.

Responding to the tributes, DCG Abe expressed gratitude to the Almighty for guiding him throughout his career.

He also thanked the Comptroller-General and members of the Management Team for their confidence in his abilities and support throughout his 35 years in the Nigeria Customs Service.

The ceremony provided an opportunity for colleagues to celebrate a career marked by dedication, professionalism and service, as Abe formally bowed out of the NCS after more than three decades of service to Nigeria.
