DHQ Debunks AI-Generated Video Targeting CDS

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed as fake an AI-generated video circulating on social media, purporting to show the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, making statements suggesting partisan political support.

The Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, in a statement on Thursday, said the video did not emanate from the CDS and that the statements attributed to him were false.

According to Uba, the video was created through artificial intelligence manipulation and was apparently designed to deceive the public, misrepresent the position of the CDS and bring the Armed Forces of Nigeria into disrepute.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution, committed to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the defence of the nation,” he stated.

The DHQ strongly condemned the deliberate creation and circulation of the fabricated video, warning those responsible for producing it and individuals knowingly amplifying the material to desist forthwith.

The military authority urged members of the public to disregard the video and rely only on information released through official Defence Headquarters communication channels.

The DHQ also identified its official social media platforms as Defence Headquarters Nigeria on Facebook and WhatsApp, DHQNigeria on X, DefenceHQ on Instagram and DefenceTV-Nigeria on YouTube.
