Education Minister Commends NYSC Digital Drive to Curb Fraud

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for leveraging technology and digital innovations to curb fraudulent activities and improve the efficiency of its operations.

Alausa gave the commendation in Abuja when the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, paid him a courtesy visit.

The Minister particularly applauded the NYSC leadership for the transformation recorded by the Scheme through the deployment of technology in the registration and deployment of Corps Members.

He said the adoption of digital solutions had helped the Scheme achieve more seamless operations and improve the integrity of its mobilisation process.

Alausa recalled that the NYSC’s initial move to introduce technology into its registration process was met with resistance from some sections of the public. He, however, noted that the digitisation of the process had significantly improved efficiency and was now widely appreciated by Nigerians.

Responding, Nafiu disclosed that the Scheme had further strengthened the security features of Corps Members’ Call-up and Posting Letters following attempts by unscrupulous individuals to clone the documents and issue fake letters to prospective employers.

According to him, the fraudulent activities had also been used to extort money from unsuspecting Corps Members.

The NYSC DG explained that the enhanced security measures had made the Call-up and Posting Letters more resistant to manipulation, while enabling employers to easily verify their authenticity.

Nafiu also disclosed that a joint committee comprising officials of the NYSC and the Federal Ministry of Education had been constituted to strengthen collaboration between both institutions.

He said the committee would help ensure that only qualified and eligible Nigerian graduates participate in the National Youth Service Corps scheme.
