The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has disowned an association operating under the name National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Federal Unity Colleges, declared that the group is neither recognised nor authorised to represent Parent-Teacher Associations across the 117 Federal Unity Colleges in Nigeria.
The Ministry said the association does not represent the individual PTAs in the Federal Unity Colleges, their parents or guardians, and has no mandate to issue directives or communications on their behalf.
In a statement issued on Monday by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the Ministry said it has neither recognised nor authorised the association to speak on behalf of the Colleges, their PTAs, parents or guardians.
The FME consequently warned parents, guardians and members of the public to disregard any statement, directive, appeal or communication issued by the association, stressing that such communications have no official standing.
The Ministry advised parents and guardians to rely exclusively on official communications issued by the Federal Ministry of Education and the management of their respective Federal Unity Colleges on matters concerning the Colleges, their children and wards, as well as school activities.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards are in their respective Federal Unity Colleges as the 2026/2027 academic session has commenced nationwide.
Alausa, on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the effective administration of the Federal Unity Colleges and to providing students with a conducive environment for learning.
The Minister also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing the support required for the academic and overall development of students throughout the 2026/2027 academic session.
