FCT Police Arrest Suspect for Raping, Impregnating 12-Year-Old Girl

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl and impregnating her.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on October 2, 2026, saying operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested the suspect during a routine patrol around Airport Bridge Taxi Park in Abuja.

According to Adeh, the officers became suspicious after observing a navy blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked with its windows fully wound up and the vehicle shaking.

She said the officers approached the vehicle and opened it, where they reportedly found Halilu sexually assaulting the minor. The suspect was immediately arrested, while the victim was rescued.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the girl on several occasions inside the vehicle parked at the same location. He was also alleged to have threatened to harm her if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.

Adeh said a medical examination revealed that the victim was approximately three months pregnant as a result of the alleged abuse.

The victim is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment, while the suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the whereabouts, safety and welfare of their children and wards.

He also called on residents to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station.

The Command provided the following emergency contact numbers for public use: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
