The FCT Police Command has arrested a woman, Mrs. Beauty Monday, for allegedly pouring boiling water on her neighbour, Gift Amos, during an argument over the use of a shared compound space in Lugbe, Abuja.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the incident occurred on September 4, 2026, while the matter was reported at the Lugbe Police Division two days later.
According to Adeh, the victim had an argument with the suspect after moving the latter’s pot of boiling water from a stove to the portion of the compound allocated to her.
Preliminary investigation by the Police revealed that the action angered the suspect, who allegedly removed the pot from the stove and poured the boiling water on Amos’ back, leaving her with serious burns and grievous injuries.
The victim is currently receiving medical attention for the injuries sustained in the attack.
Following the incident, the suspect was arrested and arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction. The court ordered her remand at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings and adjourned the case until September 16, 2026, for hearing.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and exercise restraint when resolving disagreements.
Sanusi warned residents against resorting to self-help or violence in settling disputes, stressing the importance of using lawful and peaceful channels to resolve conflicts.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
