The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed as false a viral social media publication alleging that young people around Nyanya have been selling their kidneys for money, while an agent in Mararaba is allegedly buying human kidneys.
The Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said it had neither received nor confirmed any report relating to the alleged kidney sales or human organ trafficking.
Adeh stressed that no statement or communication confirming the allegation had emanated from the FCT Police Command, describing the circulating publication as unverified.
“The FCT Police Command wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature, and no statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the Command,” she said.
The Command urged members of the public to disregard the publication and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of causing unnecessary fear, panic and apprehension among residents of the FCT.
However, the police called on anyone with credible information concerning the alleged human organ trafficking or any other security concern within the FCT to report promptly to the nearest police station.
