The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has secured the conviction of two wanted suspects, Yau Sule and Mariya Sule, for unlawful possession of live ammunition and their alleged involvement in an ammunition supply network linked to kidnappers and other criminal elements.
The suspects were arrested following intelligence-led operations conducted by the Command on June 2, 2026, over their alleged activities supplying ammunition to criminal elements operating in the North Central region and the FCT.
Yau Sule was arrested while in transit along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway. Police operatives recovered 81 rounds of 7.62mm live AK-47 ammunition and 100 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition meant for a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) during the operation.
Further investigations reportedly led to the arrest of his sister, Mariya Sule, who the police said was also involved in the ammunition supply network.
The duo were subsequently arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 1, Dutse-Alhaji, FCT, in charge number CR/DUT/1132/2026, where they were convicted for unlawful possession of live ammunition under the Firearms Act.
In separate warrants dated August 24, 2026, the court sentenced both suspects to 250 days’ imprisonment each without an option of fine.
The sentences are to be served at the Suleja Correctional Centre.
The FCT Police Command said the conviction underscored its commitment to dismantling criminal networks threatening the security of residents of the capital and neighbouring states.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency response lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
