FCT Police Unravel Mystery Behind Body Dumped Under Katampe Bridge, Arrest Hotel Staff, Lover

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has unravelled the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a lifeless man dumped under the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe Bridge, revealed that the body was allegedly removed from a Gwarimpa hotel and abandoned by members of the hotel management.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this on Saturday, September 26, 2026, during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Abuja, saying the investigation began after the body was discovered on August 26.

According to Sanusi, the deceased had earlier been reported missing by his family before his lifeless body was found by the roadside, prompting investigators to establish whether the body was connected to the missing-person report.

The CP said investigators eventually confirmed the identity of the deceased and discovered that his mobile phone was missing. Although the device had been switched off, detectives were able to establish the last person with whom the deceased had communicated, leading them to Mrs Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2.

Sanusi said further investigation revealed that Muhammed, a married woman, was allegedly in a romantic relationship with the deceased and had saved his contact on her phone as “Safiyat.”

The investigation also established that the suspect and the deceased had lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House, 2nd Avenue, Gwarimpa, where they spent some time together.

The Commissioner said Muhammed told investigators that she discovered the deceased was no longer breathing and had died, but instead of reporting the incident to the police, she allegedly took his mobile phone and left the hotel.

According to him, several hours later, after hotel management could not establish contact with the occupants of the room, the room was accessed and the deceased’s body was discovered.

Sanusi said two members of the hotel management, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly removed the body from the room and transported it to the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe Bridge, where they dumped it in an apparent attempt to distance the hotel and its management from the incident.

He, however, stressed that the exact cause and circumstances of the deceased’s death were still under investigation.

“The exact cause and circumstances of the deceased’s death still under investigation, other investigative processes are being pursued to determine the full facts of the case,” the Commissioner said.

He added that anyone found to have played a role in the death or subsequent concealment and abandonment of the body would face the law.

In another development, the Commissioner disclosed that the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit had recovered two AK-47 rifles and two magazines during an ongoing investigation into a kidnapping syndicate.

Sanusi said the recovery followed the arrest of one Musbahu Ishak on August 2, 2026, after two assault rifles were recovered from him.

He said further investigation led police operatives to a hideout in Kagarko Forest on August 16, where two AK-47 rifles without breach numbers and two magazines without ammunition were recovered after being dug out from the ground.

The police team was reportedly ambushed by suspected members of the syndicate while leaving the forest with the recovered weapons and the suspect in custody.

Sanusi said a police officer sustained gunshot injuries to the chest during the ensuing gun duel, while Ishak was also wounded and subsequently died in hospital. The injured police officer, he added, was responding to treatment.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the Command had arrested two suspected members of a “One Chance” robbery syndicate operating within the FCT.

The suspects, identified as 41-year-old Okwudili Benjamin of Mararaba, Nasarawa State, and 37-year-old Chinedu Mbaka of Aso ‘B’, Nasarawa State, were arrested on September 20, 2026, around Court of Appeal Junction along Goodluck Jonathan Expressway.

Sanusi said the suspects were intercepted while travelling in a Toyota Camry, 2000 model, with registration number ABJ RSH 606 SG, adding that they attempted to flee after sighting the police operatives.

A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the recovery of nine Android phones, pliers, a wheel lock and other exhibits.

The Commissioner said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were allegedly responsible for several “One Chance” robbery incidents within the city centre.

He added that investigations revealed the suspects were waiting for an accomplice on the night of their arrest before setting out to pick up unsuspecting members of the public, while some of the recovered phones had allegedly been identified as belonging to previous victims.

Sanusi said operatives subsequently traced an alleged receiver of the stolen items, identified as Osondu Benard, to NPC Junction, Nyanya, where he was arrested.

He assured residents that the Command would continue to pursue criminal gangs, dismantle their networks and trace the proceeds of their activities.

The Commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the police, stressing that security remained a collective responsibility.
