The Federal Government has approved the appointment of three substantive provosts for Federal Colleges of Agriculture as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural education and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s food security agenda.
The appointments, approved by the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abba Kyari, followed a rigorous examination and interview conducted by the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN).
The newly appointed provosts are Dr. Folorunsho Rasheed Oloyede for the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure; Dr. Salisu Salisu for the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, Gombe State; and Dr. Umar Umar Abdullahi for the Federal College of Agriculture and Produce Technology, Kano.
Presenting the letters of appointment in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, Dr. Adamu Abubakar Dabban, urged the new provosts to align with the Federal Government’s food security agenda by transforming their respective institutions into centres of excellence for agricultural education, research and innovation.
Dr. Dabban charged the appointees to demonstrate professionalism, diligence and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities, stressing the need to pursue ambitious reforms aimed at improving governance, enhancing research capacity, strengthening stakeholder collaboration, promoting staff welfare and advancing Nigeria’s National Agricultural Research System.
He expressed confidence that the new leadership would reposition the colleges to produce highly skilled manpower capable of driving sustainable agricultural development and contributing meaningfully to national food security.
The appointments take immediate effect.
