FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday for Eid ul Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The declaration was announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the occasion, urging them to use the celebration as an opportunity to reflect on the teachings and exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad.

According to the minister, Eid ul Mawlid provides an opportunity for Nigerians to draw lessons from the Prophet’s life, particularly his emphasis on compassion, humility, service to humanity and peaceful coexistence.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” he said.

He noted that these values remained essential to the country’s quest for peace, unity and national development, urging all Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation, to embrace them.

The minister also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and national cohesion, stressing that building and sustaining a peaceful nation remained a collective responsibility.

He urged Muslim faithful and other Nigerians celebrating with them to mark the occasion with restraint, mutual respect and consideration for one another.

Tunji-Ojo further reaffirmed the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to protecting lives and property and promoting peace and stability across the country.

He called on Nigerians to continue supporting efforts aimed at strengthening national unity and fostering peaceful coexistence among citizens of diverse faiths and backgrounds.

The Federal Government wished Muslim faithful a peaceful, joyous and spiritually rewarding Eid ul Mawlid celebration.
