The Federal Government has announced plans to unveil a $1 billion Renewed Hope Social Protection Programme aimed at strengthening social protection, reducing poverty and promoting economic inclusion among vulnerable Nigerians.
The programme, being implemented through the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, will be unveiled on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to formally unveil the initiative.
According to a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the ministry, Mrs Janet McDickson Noah, the programme represented a renewed effort by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to build a more integrated, household-centred and results-driven social protection system.
A major component of the initiative is the One Humanitarian One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS), which will serve as an integrated national architecture linking humanitarian response, social protection, poverty reduction, economic inclusion and graduation around the household as the centre of intervention.
The ministry said the strategic proposition of OHOPRS is: “One System, From Vulnerability to Prosperity.”
The programme will also include the launch of an Emergency Cash Transfer initiative targeting 7.6 million vulnerable households, with the aim of providing timely assistance to families affected by socio-economic vulnerabilities and shocks.
The Federal Government is also expected to unveil the Humanity First Magazine, a communication and knowledge platform designed to showcase government interventions, results, partnerships, human-impact stories and innovations within Nigeria’s humanitarian and poverty-reduction sector.
The ministry said the initiative would strengthen collaboration between the Office of the First Lady and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction in ensuring that vulnerable households are protected, empowered and progressively connected to sustainable pathways to prosperity.
It added that the Renewed Hope Social Protection Programme would mark a significant step towards a more coordinated, responsive and results-oriented social protection system that places vulnerable Nigerians at the centre of national development.
The programme is being unveiled under the leadership of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard M. Doro.
