The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has commended the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the Office of the First Lady for providing financial support to families of security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
IGP Disu made the commendation on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, during the presentation of financial support to families of fallen heroes of the Armed Forces and the Nigeria Police Force.
The second edition of the initiative, organised under the RHI Social Investment Programme, targeted families of security personnel who died in the line of duty since the inception of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
A total of 1,638 families of deceased police officers received financial empowerment packages aimed at helping them rebuild their livelihoods and provide for their dependants.
The ceremony was attended by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON; Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; Wife of the Senate President, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio; Service Chiefs; the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), as well as wives of heads of security agencies.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces, IGP Disu expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the First Lady for the intervention, describing it as a profound demonstration of national gratitude and compassion.
He said the Renewed Hope Initiative goes beyond policy, stressing that it represents an effort to restore dignity and stand with citizens during their most vulnerable moments.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the IGP assured the bereaved families that the sacrifices of their loved ones would remain remembered by a grateful nation.
The Nigeria Police Force, he added, would continue to prioritise the welfare of its personnel and support the families of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation.
