The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has appointed the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola, as the National Youth Ambassador of the Nigeria Police Force.
Disu formally conferred the appointment on Agboola on Monday, September 7, 2026, when the Flutterwave CEO visited the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The appointment is part of the International Youth Day 2026 – National Youth Security, Peacebuilding and Empowerment Initiative, which seeks to engage credible young leaders and role models in promoting peace, security, entrepreneurship and responsible citizenship among Nigerian youths.
The Police said Agboola’s appointment recognises his achievements as a technology entrepreneur and his leadership in building Flutterwave into one of Africa’s leading financial technology companies, particularly in the areas of innovation, financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and responsible enterprise.
Speaking during the occasion, IGP Disu said the initiative was designed to leverage positive youth leadership to promote peacebuilding, cybersecurity awareness, entrepreneurship and constructive civic participation, while encouraging young Nigerians to reject cybercrime and other social vices.
The IGP stressed the importance of creating positive pathways for young people through education, innovation, entrepreneurship and lawful enterprise, noting that youths must be seen as partners in the effort to build safer and more secure communities.
Disu also called for increased technological capacity among young police officers, particularly in emerging technologies and their application to modern policing.
He said strengthening the digital skills of police personnel would enhance the Force’s ability to investigate cybercrime, trace digital evidence and respond effectively to technology-enabled criminal activities.
The IGP charged Agboola to deploy his influence and platform towards inspiring young Nigerians to embrace integrity, responsible innovation and legitimate opportunities, while contributing meaningfully to national development.
Responding, Agboola expressed appreciation to the IGP for the confidence reposed in him and pledged his support for the objectives of the initiative, particularly in youth empowerment, cybersecurity awareness, entrepreneurship and peaceful civic engagement.
