The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has honoured a retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic, DST Anifa Bello Abiodun, with an Award of Recognition and cash support for her outstanding service to the Nigeria Police Force.
The recognition was presented on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where Disu commended the retired officer for her professionalism, discipline, resilience and dedication to traffic management during her years of service with the Ogun State Police Command, particularly in Abeokuta.
Throughout her career, Anifa Bello Abiodun distinguished herself through her commitment to duty and consistent service to members of the public. Her professionalism and dedication earned her the appreciation and goodwill of residents and road users in the communities where she served, eventually leading to public recognition of her contributions.
Speaking during the presentation, the IGP said members of the public appreciate the Police when officers discharge their responsibilities professionally and responsibly, noting that public dissatisfaction is often directed at misconduct rather than the institution itself.
Disu expressed satisfaction that the retired officer had earned the respect and recognition of the community she served, describing her conduct as an example of the values expected of police personnel.
He stressed that while the Nigeria Police Force would continue to hold personnel accountable for misconduct, officers who demonstrate professionalism, integrity and exemplary service must also be recognised and rewarded.
According to him, such recognition reinforced the standards expected of police officers and encouraged personnel to distinguish themselves through dedication, discipline and responsible service.
The Nigeria Police Force said the gesture underscored its commitment to accountability, exemplary conduct and recognition of personnel whose dedication to duty strengthened public confidence and contribute meaningfully to effective policing and service to communities across the country.
