In an extraordinary display of endurance and passion for journalism, Nigerian journalist Livinus Chibuike Victor has smashed the Guinness World Record for the longest interview marathon, clocking an astonishing 72 hours and 30 minutes of back-to-back interviews in the nation’s capital.
Held at Harrow Park Golf Club, the historic feat began on Friday, 17th April 2025, and concluded triumphantly on Sunday, 20th April 2025, under the rousing theme “Nigeria, Our Strength.”
Livinus, a resilient media personality with deep roots in grassroots reporting, conducted over 205 interviews with a diverse cross-section of Nigerians—ranging from civic leaders and entrepreneurs to artisans and everyday citizens. Each conversation spotlighted pressing societal issues and personal stories that reflect the heartbeat of the nation.
“This isn’t just about endurance,” Livinus told journalists at a press briefing. “It’s about demonstrating the importance of a free press. Journalists may face censorship and threats, but we continue to tell stories that matter. This marathon is for them.”
The previous record 55 hours and 24 seconds was held by fellow Nigerian Clara Chizoba Kronborg, who set the benchmark in Marbella, Spain, in March 2024. Livinus surpassed that mark by a remarkable 17 hours, capturing national and international attention.
Preparation for the record-breaking challenge was intense. Livinus followed a strict regimen of mental conditioning, meditation, resilience exercises, and nutrient-rich meals, all under the close watch of a professional health team. Strategic short breaks, hydration, and unwavering determination kept him going.
Support poured in from across the country. The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, led by Chairman Grace Ike, described the event as “a bold and inspiring act that reinforces the power of journalism to drive national conversation and change.”
Born and raised in Nigeria, Livinus has built a career anchored on advocacy journalism, storytelling, and mentoring young reporters. His work has earned him respect as a principled, fearless journalist committed to social impact.
Now officially a record-breaker, Livinus says the journey has just begun.
“This record is not the destination it’s a megaphone for press freedom. When journalists are free, people are informed, and democracy thrives. The time to defend that freedom is now”he stated.
Looking ahead, Livinus dreams of conducting an interview marathon in Antarctica, proved no place is too far or too cold for meaningful storytelling.
