The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in collaboration with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has conducted a fire emergency drill at the Benin Airport to strengthen inter-agency response and enhance the protection of lives and critical airport infrastructure.
The Third Quarter Fire Emergency Drill Rehearsal, conducted by the 107 Air Maritime Group (107 AMG) on Friday, August 28, 2026, was designed to test the readiness of participating agencies to respond swiftly and effectively to fire-related emergencies within the airport environment.
The exercise simulated an emergency situation and activated key response procedures, including emergency communication, evacuation, firefighting operations and post-incident assessment.
The NAF said the exercise provided an opportunity for personnel of the participating agencies to assess their preparedness, improve coordination and identify areas requiring further attention in the management of emergencies.
It added that the collaboration between 107 AMG and FAAN was aimed at strengthening interoperability and ensuring that personnel can respond with speed, professionalism and efficiency whenever lives are at risk.
According to the Air Force, regular emergency preparedness exercises remain critical to reducing risks, protecting passengers and airport personnel, and safeguarding vital infrastructure.
The successful rehearsal, the NAF said, further demonstrated its commitment to operational readiness and public safety, noting that its responsibility extends beyond defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity to protecting lives and contributing to the wellbeing of citizens.
The exercise also reaffirmed the importance of sustained cooperation among security and emergency response agencies in building a coordinated system capable of effectively managing emergencies and saving lives.
The NAF reiterated its commitment to continuous improvement, inter-agency collaboration and people-centred operations in its efforts to strengthen public confidence and promote safety across the country.
