NAF Tests 816 Recruits’ Endurance in 10km Inter-Squadron Run

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Military Training Centre (MTC), Kaduna, has tested the physical fitness, endurance and mental resilience of 816 recruits of the Basic Military Training Course (BMTC) 46/2025 during a 10-kilometre Inter-Squadron Run Competition.

The competition, held on Saturday, 29 August 2026, featured recruits from the Alpha-Jet, ATR-42, C-130 and MI-35 Squadrons in a fiercely contested exercise designed to strengthen stamina, discipline, determination and team spirit.

The exercise also reinforced the military ethos of moving together and leaving no one behind, qualities considered essential for personnel preparing to support counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.

Speaking before the competition, the Commandant of the MTC, Air Commodore AO Akins, urged the recruits to give their best, stressing that physical activities of such nature were important to their physical and mental development.

He noted that the exercise would help prepare the recruits for the rigours of military service and the operational responsibilities ahead of them.

At the end of the competition, the C-130 Squadron emerged overall champion with 2,205 points, while ATR-42, MI-35 and Alpha-Jet Squadrons followed in that order.

Air Commodore Akins presented the championship trophy to the victorious C-130 Squadron, commending the recruits for their commitment and determination throughout the competition.

The exercise form part of the recruits’ preparations for the Camp Initial Exercise and the forthcoming Cross-Country Competition, further demonstrating the NAF’s commitment to producing physically fit, resilient, cohesive and operationally ready personnel.
