NAF Unveils New Quarters, Sports Complex to Boost Troops’ Morale, Readiness

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned newly completed accommodation and recreational facilities in Abuja as part of efforts to boost personnel morale, improve welfare and enhance operational readiness.

The projects, commissioned on Friday, September 4, 2026, by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, include Airmen’s Quarters at Mogadishu Cantonment and Abacha Road, the 065 Medical Officer’s Quarters and the NAF Valley Base Sports Complex, Asokoro.

Speaking during the commissioning, Aneke described the projects as another significant milestone in the NAF’s continuing efforts to enhance personnel welfare and infrastructural development.

He said the projects went beyond the unveiling of new facilities, stressing that they represented a deliberate commitment by the Service to improving the living conditions, physical well-being and overall effectiveness of its personnel.

According to him, the demands of military service require personnel to remain focused, physically fit and mentally prepared at all times, making adequate accommodation and recreational facilities critical to sustaining morale and operational readiness.

The CAS said the newly completed accommodation would provide “a more conducive and secure living environment for our airmen,” while the sports complex would promote physical fitness, recreation, teamwork and esprit de corps.

Aneke also disclosed that the NAF was developing a sustainable formula to enable the average personnel to own a home.

He said the Service was currently engaging banks and relevant government agencies to address factors responsible for the high cost of housing and limited access to affordable homeownership by personnel.

The initiative, he explained, was part of the NAF’s broader commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families, both during active service and beyond.

The CAS further disclosed that some blocks of the newly commissioned accommodation had been named after officers and airmen who paid the supreme price or distinguished themselves gallantly in the operational theatre.

He said the gesture was intended to preserve the memory of the fallen, honour their sacrifices and gallantry, and inspire future generations of NAF personnel.

Aneke said the projects aligned with a key enabler of his leadership vision of maintaining a highly motivated force through enhanced welfare and infrastructural renewal.

He commended all individuals and organisations that contributed to the successful completion of the projects and urged beneficiaries to ensure their proper maintenance and judicious use.

The CAS assured that the NAF would continue, within available resources, to pursue initiatives aimed at improving the living and working conditions of its personnel while strengthening the Service’s capacity to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.

The commissioning, he added, underscored the NAF’s commitment to building a well-supported, motivated and operationally effective force.
