The Nigerian Navy has dismantled and destroyed an illegal refining site with three large storage tanks at Promise Land Community along Nanabie Creek in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The operation, carried out on October 2, 2026, was conducted by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, following the discovery of the illegal facility through credible intelligence.
The site was first identified on September 30 and was found to contain one large cooking pot and three large storage tanks believed to be intended for illegal refining activities.
The Commanding Officer, FOB Bonny, Captain SMC Umeh, subsequently led a team to the location, where the illegal refining infrastructure was destroyed in line with established regulations.
The Nigerian Navy said the intervention was aimed at further disrupting illegal refining activities in the Bonny area by removing infrastructure that could be used to process and store stolen crude oil.
According to the Navy, the operation is part of ongoing efforts by FOB Bonny to tackle crude oil theft and illegal refining within its Area of Operations.
The service said recent operations under Operation DELTA SENTINEL had also uncovered substantial volumes of suspected stolen crude oil and associated illegal refining infrastructure.
The Nigerian Navy added that surveillance and monitoring had been strengthened across the area to prevent the establishment or reactivation of illegal refining sites and deny criminal operators the infrastructure needed to sustain crude oil theft and related activities.
