The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has formalised a strategic partnership with the Enugu State Government for the operational lease of the Commission’s Digital Industrial Park and Learning Centre in Enugu, in a move aimed at accelerating digital skills development, innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the partnership underscores the Commission’s commitment to equipping Nigerians with the digital competencies required to thrive in an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, automation and emerging technologies.
According to Maida, while digital infrastructure remains critical, equal attention must be given to developing the human capacity needed to harness technology productively.
He explained that the Digital Industrial Park and Learning Centre were established as platforms to nurture innovation, support startups, develop human capital, attract investment and create employment opportunities.
The NCC boss noted that the facilities are expected to position Nigeria as a competitive destination for business process outsourcing (BPO), knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) and other technology-driven services.
“Buildings alone do not create innovation. People do. Ideas do. Entrepreneurs do. Partnerships bring all these elements together,” Maida stated.
He expressed confidence that, with the Enugu State Government taking over the operational management of the facilities, young people would acquire 21st-century digital skills, entrepreneurs would transform innovative ideas into sustainable businesses, and local enterprises would gain access to opportunities across Nigeria and beyond.
Maida added that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s digital economy agenda and supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly the vision of building a one-trillion-dollar economy driven by innovation, productivity and private sector growth.
He reaffirmed the NCC’s commitment to expanding digital opportunities, strengthening human capital development and ensuring that communities across the country are not left behind in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
