The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the state to provide adequate security for political campaigns and ensure that clashes arising from campaign schedules are professionally managed.
Elleman gave the directive on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, during the Command’s strategic monthly conference with Heads of Departments (HODs), Area Commanders and DPOs across the state.
The conference reviewed the prevailing security situation in Niger State, Force policies and directives, as well as strategies for strengthening effective and professional policing across the command.
The CP also reviewed the recent intervention of the Inspector-General of Police in Borgu Local Government Area, where tactical teams and operational assets were deployed to strengthen security operations.
He noted that the increased police presence in the affected areas had contributed significantly to reducing incidents of violent crime and had received public appreciation.
Elleman directed all DPOs to sustain and strengthen engagement with Farmers/Herders Committees across the various local government areas, monitor their activities closely and promptly submit comprehensive reports of their engagements to the command.
On political activities, the commissioner noted the commencement of campaigns following the lifting of the ban on campaign activities by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He directed Area Commanders and DPOs to provide adequate security coverage for all political parties, while ensuring that clashes arising from campaign schedules are professionally managed to prevent conflict, maintain public order and protect lives and property.
The commissioner also briefed the officers on the outcome of the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO) 2026, held in Imo State from September 21 to 24.
He said the conference focused extensively on election security management, electoral offences, cybercrime and other critical security issues, particularly in preparation for the 2027 General Elections.
Elleman also sensitised officers on the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy, stressing the need for personnel to understand and strictly adhere to its provisions. He warned that violations would attract appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with established regulations.
Addressing the security challenges associated with the ember months, the CP directed Area Commanders and DPOs to adopt proactive and intelligence-led policing strategies to prevent crime and maintain public safety across the state.
In preparation for the October 1 Independence Day celebrations, Elleman further ordered the deployment of adequate personnel and operational assets across Niger State to ensure peaceful and orderly celebrations.
He charged officers to remain vigilant, professional and responsive to emerging security threats, while reiterating his commitment to strengthening operational effectiveness, community partnership, intelligence-led policing and professionalism across the command.
The commissioner urged all personnel to remain dedicated to their constitutional responsibilities and the protection of lives and property in Niger State.
