The Ukomu Igala Organization (UIO) Worldwide has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s unity, peace and territorial integrity as the country celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary.
In an Independence Day message signed by its President, Major General James Ataguba (Rtd), the organisation joined Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to commemorate the nation’s independence, describing the anniversary as an opportunity for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to nation-building.
The organisation noted that despite the challenges Nigeria has faced over the decades, the country has continued to demonstrate resilience, strength and unity in diversity, expressing confidence in its capacity to overcome present difficulties and achieve sustainable development.
UIO highlighted the contributions of the Igala people to national security, public service, commerce, education, culture and nation-building, stressing that the community remained committed to the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The organisation also acknowledged the contributions of past and present Nigerian leaders, particularly the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in steering the country through ongoing economic and structural reforms.
According to Ataguba, although the reform process may be difficult, it is intended to strengthen the economy, improve public institutions, expand social infrastructure, attract investments and establish a foundation for sustainable national development and prosperity.
However, the organisation expressed concern over the persistence of multidimensional poverty, widespread insecurity and the deterioration of social amenities, particularly at the grassroots.
It warned that unless these challenges were urgently addressed, they could undermine the Federal Government’s ongoing reform efforts, urging the administration to reassure Nigerians through practical and productive measures aimed at improving citizens’ welfare.
UIO further called on Nigerians to remain united, hopeful and committed to the collective responsibility of building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
The organisation stressed that national development could not be achieved by the government alone but required the shared commitment, sacrifices, hard work and patriotism of all citizens.
“At 66, Nigeria stands not merely as a nation of over two hundred million people but as a beacon of hope for Africa and the Black race,” the statement said, emphasising that the country’s diversity remained a strength and its unity a vital asset.
The organisation expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its present challenges and attain greater prosperity, urging citizens not to lose hope in the country’s future.
On behalf of Ukomu Igala Organization Worldwide, Ataguba congratulated the Federal Government and Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and prayed for lasting peace, stability, prosperity and progress in Kogi State and across the country.
He concluded with a call for the continued progress of Nigeria, Kogi State and the Igala nation.
