Nigeria Condemns Houthi Attack on Saudi Arabia, Calls for Peaceful Resolution

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep concern over the recent attack by Houthi militia on civilian targets in the Najran Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, describing the incident as a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said the attack, which reportedly left several civilians, including women and children, injured, was a reprehensible act that contravened the fundamental principles guiding the protection of civilians during armed conflicts.

Ebienfa said the Federal Government reaffirmed its unwavering opposition to the escalation of violence in the region, stressing that attacks deliberately targeting civilian populations and infrastructure, regardless of the perpetrators, are unacceptable and should be unequivocally condemned by the international community.

He said Nigeria called on all parties involved in the conflict to exercise maximum restraint, adhere strictly to international law, and place the protection of civilians at the centre of their actions.

The spokesperson added that the Federal Government urged renewed and intensified diplomatic engagement aimed at achieving a peaceful and sustainable resolution of the conflict while respecting the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of all states in the region.

According to him, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to monitor developments closely and work with regional and international partners in support of peace, security, and stability across the Gulf and the wider Middle East.
