The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated Dr. András Baka on his election as the new President of Hungary.
The congratulatory message was conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, on behalf of the Nigerian government and people.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria commended the Hungarian National Assembly for the successful conclusion of the presidential election and wished Baka success as he prepares to assume office.
Nigeria highlighted Baka’s distinguished career in the Hungarian and international judiciary, including his service as President of Hungary’s Supreme Court and as a Judge of the European Court of Human Rights.
The Federal Government said his extensive judicial experience and commitment to the rule of law, constitutional governance and institutional independence would be valuable in the discharge of his responsibilities as Hungary’s Head of State.
Nigeria expressed confidence that under Baka’s leadership, Hungary would continue to promote democratic values, the rule of law, institutional stability and national unity, while deepening its constructive engagement with the international community.
The government also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding cordial relations with Hungary, particularly in political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, education, culture, science and technology, as well as people-to-people exchanges.
