The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has received commendation from the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, for its strong revenue performance, investment in technology and ongoing reforms aimed at improving trade facilitation.

Oyedele gave the commendation on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, during his inaugural board meeting and facility tour at the Customs Headquarters in Abuja, where he praised the leadership and officers of the Service for their progress in modernising operations and strengthening revenue collection.
The Minister said the NCS had demonstrated remarkable operational capacity in 2026, generating ₦4.03 trillion in revenue in the first half of the year and an additional ₦1.38 trillion in July and August.
He said the performance places the Service firmly on course to meet its ambitious ₦11 trillion revenue target for the year, attributing the progress to increased automation, intelligence-led reforms and improved cargo processing strategies under the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.
Oyedele also expressed satisfaction with the modern intelligence tools and technological infrastructure deployed by the Service, saying the developments provide a strong foundation for Nigeria to assume a leading role in regional and global trade.
He challenged the NCS to build on its achievements by establishing world-class standards in port efficiency, end-to-end transparency, cargo clearance timelines and revenue integrity.
“Results are precisely what should propel us to do more,” the Minister said, stressing that Nigeria must distinguish itself through measurable performance rather than rhetoric.
He reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s support for the Customs Service, assuring that the Federal Government would continue to provide cutting-edge technology, modern operational tools and the necessary policy backing to sustain the Service’s transformation.
Oyedele said the ultimate objective was to position the NCS as one of Africa’s leading trade facilitation institutions while strengthening its contribution to national economic growth and revenue generation.
