Nigeria and Indonesia have moved to strengthen bilateral energy cooperation, with both countries exploring opportunities for long-term crude oil supply, investment in oil and gas assets and collaboration across the energy value chain.
The development followed a meeting in Abuja between the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, and an Indonesian delegation led by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Arif Havas Oegroseno.
Ojulari, who was represented at the engagement by the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, highlighted Nigeria’s investment opportunities across the integrated energy value chain.
He said the opportunities span upstream exploration and production, natural gas, refining, downstream operations, power and renewable energy, stressing the potential for a comprehensive and mutually beneficial partnership between both countries.
The Indonesian delegation expressed interest in securing long-term crude oil supply arrangements from Nigeria, while also indicating its readiness to invest in Nigerian oil and gas assets.
The areas of interest include new oil blocks as well as existing producing and near-producing projects, reflecting Indonesia’s desire to deepen its participation in Nigeria’s energy sector.
The discussions also explored opportunities for cooperation in shipping and logistics, technical training and capacity development, further broadening the scope of the proposed Nigeria-Indonesia energy partnership.
The engagement underscored renewed efforts by both countries to leverage their respective strengths and investment opportunities to advance energy security, economic growth and sustainable development.
