The Nigeria military has intensified its Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiatives across the country, combining kinetic operations with community development projects aimed at strengthening public trust and promoting lasting peace.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this while presenting the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s operational report for July 2026 in Abuja.
He said the Armed Forces, under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, continued to implement people-centred initiatives alongside combat operations to improve relations with host communities and address the root causes of insecurity.
According to him, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE mediated disputes between SEEPCO and host communities in Delta State, facilitating dialogue on community development issues, employment opportunities and infrastructure projects to prevent tensions capable of disrupting peace and economic activities.
Similarly, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE organised peace and security meetings in Benue and Nasarawa States involving traditional rulers, community leaders, local government officials and other security agencies to resolve communal conflicts through dialogue.
The military also supported public health interventions in Borno State following a cholera outbreak in Kukawa Local Government Area by establishing temporary treatment and quarantine facilities in collaboration with health authorities.
In addition, troops partnered with the Nigerian Bar Association and health officials to conduct cholera awareness campaigns in schools and markets across Baga and Doro Baga, educating residents on disease prevention and hygiene.
Beyond security operations, the Armed Forces executed several community development projects across the country.
These include the construction of town halls in Cross River and Imo States, installation of industrial solar-powered boreholes with large-capacity water systems in Katsina, Niger and Kwara States, electrification projects in Akwa Ibom State, installation of a 500KVA transformer in Imo State and renovation of a primary school in Kogi State.
Major General Onoja noted that the projects reflected the Armed Forces’ commitment to supporting national development while sustaining operations against terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, crude oil theft and other criminal activities.
He added that July operations recorded the neutralisation of 102 terrorists and criminals, the arrest of 345 suspects, the rescue of 393 kidnapped victims and the surrender of 57 insurgents.
The Defence Headquarters urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies with timely intelligence, stressing that national security remains a shared responsibility between the military and the civilian population.
