Nigeria, Serbia Renew Diplomatic Ties as Ambassador Braimah Presents Credentials

Nigeria and Serbia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations as Nigeria’s newly accredited Non-Resident Ambassador to Serbia, Engr. Abasi Ogwime Braimah, presented his Letters of Credence to Serbian President, Mr. Aleksandar Vučić, in Belgrade.

The presentation took place on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Palace of Serbia, formally accrediting Ambassador Braimah as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Serbia, with residence in Budapest, Hungary.

The ceremony marked a significant moment in the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and Serbia, which dates back more than six decades. It also provided an opportunity for both countries to reaffirm their commitment to deepening historic ties and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

While conveying the warm fraternal greetings of the Government and people of Nigeria to President Vučić and the people of Serbia, Ambassador Braimah reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening the bonds of friendship, mutual respect and cooperation that have characterised relations between the two countries.

He underscored the importance of expanding bilateral collaboration in political and diplomatic engagement, trade and investment, economic cooperation, education, culture and other sectors capable of producing tangible benefits for citizens of both countries.

Ambassador Braimah also expressed his readiness to work closely with the Serbian Government, diplomatic community, private-sector stakeholders and other relevant partners to identify new opportunities for cooperation while consolidating existing areas of engagement.

His accreditation comes at a time of evolving global partnerships, with economic diplomacy, institutional cooperation and people-to-people relations assuming greater importance in international affairs.

Against this backdrop, the Ambassador’s assignment provides an opportunity for Nigeria and Serbia to broaden their engagement, strengthen economic interaction and explore new areas of strategic cooperation.

The presentation of the Letters of Credence therefore signals the commencement of a new phase in Ambassador Braimah’s diplomatic assignment, with emphasis on sustained dialogue, economic opportunities, institutional partnerships and stronger people-to-people relations.

The renewed engagement is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of the priorities of both countries while creating fresh avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation between Nigeria and Serbia.
