Nigerian Navy Uncovers 85,000 Litres of Suspected Stolen Crude Oil in Rivers

The Nigerian Navy has uncovered approximately 85,000 litres of substance suspected to be stolen crude oil during a follow-up operation at Allison area of Rivers State.

The operation, conducted by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, followed actionable intelligence on the establishment of a new illegal bunkering site in the area.

According to the Navy, troops discovered 16 concealed dugout pits, four of which contained approximately 40,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil, while another three held about 45,000 litres suspected to be awaiting processing.

The operation also led to the discovery of hoses believed to have been used to move crude oil within the illegal bunkering site.

The latest discovery came barely a week after the Navy deactivated a major illegal refining camp in the same area on September 22, highlighting continued efforts to prevent the resurgence of illicit oil-processing activities.

The Navy said the successive operations demonstrated the impact of sustained pressure and intelligence-led operations on criminal operators attempting to rebuild illegal oil-processing infrastructure.

It added that the recovered suspected stolen crude oil and other associated items were handled in accordance with established procedures.

The Navy further reaffirmed the importance of maintaining a sustained presence and intelligence-led operations to deny criminal operators the infrastructure required to store, process and transport stolen crude oil.
