NIS Enrols 8,552 Nigerians in Diaspora in Passport Intervention Exercises

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has enrolled 8,552 Nigerians in the diaspora through targeted passport intervention exercises conducted across the United States, Canada, Qatar and the United Kingdom.

The exercises, undertaken as part of efforts to improve passport service delivery to Nigerians abroad, were carried out under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to the NIS, the interventions were designed to bring passport services closer to Nigerians across various cities and were conducted in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and representatives of Nigerian communities in the affected countries.

In the United States, 535 applicants were enrolled during the exercise held in Chicago, Michigan and Milwaukee from September 7 to 15, 2026.

Canada recorded 2,257 enrolments from September 6 to 19 across Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta and New Brunswick, while 751 Nigerians were enrolled during the intervention exercise conducted in Qatar from August 9 to 24, 2026.

The ongoing exercise in the United Kingdom, covering London and Manchester, has so far recorded the highest number of enrolments, with 5,099 applicants captured.

The Service said passport production and dispatch are being carried out concurrently with the ongoing UK intervention exercise.

It added that Nigerians who were unable to secure appointment slots during the exercise, as well as those who prefer not to visit the designated centres or the Nigerian High Commission physically, can utilise the Contactless Passport Application System.

The NIS reiterated its commitment to providing responsive, accessible, timely and convenient passport services to Nigerians in the diaspora.
