NIS Inducts 73 Public Relations Officers into NIPR to Strengthen Strategic Communication

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has inducted 73 of its Public Relations Officers into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) as part of efforts to institutionalise strategic communication and professionalise its public relations cadre.

The officers were inducted after successfully completing the NIPR Training and Certification Programme held at the Service Headquarters in Abuja.

Representing the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, at the ceremony, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Visa and Residency, FU Nwanneka, urged the newly inducted officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

She charged them to proactively manage public perception, counter misinformation, respond effectively during crises, and strengthen public confidence in the Service as it continues to implement technology-driven reforms in migration management and border governance.

Nwanneka also commended the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations for partnering with the Service to deepen professionalism and enhance the practice of public relations within the NIS.

President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku, formally inducted the participants into the Institute. He urged the officers to embrace ethical conduct, professionalism, and continuous learning as essential values of the public relations profession.

In his closing remarks, the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, highlighted the Comptroller-General’s unwavering commitment to capacity building and her determination to standardise public relations practice across the Service.

He expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, facilitators, and other stakeholders for their support in making the training and induction programme a success.

Akinlabi also encouraged the newly inducted officers to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to enhance public engagement and reinforce the Service’s communication strategy.

The Service noted that the successful completion of the training and induction reflects its commitment to continuous professional development through strategic partnerships and specialised training programmes aimed at advancing its core mandates of migration management and border governance.
