NITDA, NDPC Deepen Partnership on Data Protection, Digital Governance

The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has paid a high-level courtesy visit to the National Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji, at the Commission’s new headquarters.

The visit focused on strengthening regulatory collaboration between both institutions as Nigeria’s digital economy continues to expand.

Abdullahi commended the NDPC for its strides since inception, while highlighting NITDA’s foundational role in the development of Nigeria’s data privacy framework.

He stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding citizens’ data, strengthening digital trust and supporting sustainable economic growth.

The NITDA Director-General reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to providing continuous strategic support to ensure that Nigeria’s data governance standards remain aligned with global best practices.

Responding, Olatunji expressed appreciation to NITDA for its sustained support, particularly during the NDPC’s transition from an internal unit within NITDA into a fully fledged and independent regulatory commission.

He reflected on the evolution of Nigeria’s data protection landscape, from the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) to the enactment of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.

According to him, NITDA’s partnership has remained a cornerstone of the progress recorded in Nigeria’s data protection ecosystem.

The two leaders subsequently pledged to strengthen integration and cooperation between the institutions, with a shared commitment to building a safe, secure and resilient digital future for Nigeria.
